Bavarian Energy Prize 2026: Canon wins in the category Energy Efficiency in industrial processes and production
Poing 2026 – On Wednesday, 8 July 2026, Bavaria’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger, presented Canon Production Printing Germany GmbH & Co. KG, Poing, with the Bavarian Energy Prize 2026 at a ceremony held at the Bergson Kunstkraftwerk in Munich. The award, in the category ‘Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes and Production’, recognises Canon’s outstanding achievements.

Since 1999, the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy has been presenting the prestigious Bavarian Energy Prize to outstanding projects that make a significant contribution to securing and strengthening Bavaria’s position as an energy and business hub, and to advancing both the energy transition and climate neutrality. The competition is open to companies, engineering firms, cities, districts, local authorities, universities and other research institutions with their headquarters or project sites in Bavaria. Every two years, pioneering flagship projects are selected in six categories: energy efficiency in industrial processes and production, innovative energy infrastructure projects, buildings as energy systems and property concepts, municipal energy concepts, digitalisation in the energy sector, and energy research. A specialist jury comprising experts from academia, industry and professional organisations assessed over 200 entries in a multi-stage process, evaluating them on the basis of their degree of innovation, energy savings and practical relevance.
The Bavarian Energy Prize 2026 recognises the wide range of measures taken by Canon to optimise processes and production workflows, which significantly reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions whilst promoting the efficient use of resources and a resource-conserving circular economy. The energy efficiency measures implemented at every stage of the process include, amongst other things, ‘free cooling’ of production facilities and buildings using groundwater, heating via deep geothermal energy, a PV system for in-house electricity generation with a 25 per cent self-consumption rate, electric mobility, climate-controlled tents for development work, and an energy management system compliant with ISO 50001.
This holistic approach demonstrates how Canon successfully combines industrial commitment to climate protection, resource conservation and economically viable solutions. The award also highlights Canon’s ongoing involvement in energy efficiency and decarbonisation networks, as well as its active collaboration with regional partners from industry and research. “This award confirms our long-term strategy of approaching energy efficiency not as a one-off measure but as a structural approach, and of developing it step by step,” says Johann Meyer, Managing Director of Canon Production Printing Germany GmbH & Co. KG, Poing. “We are delighted that our commitment has been recognised with the Bavarian Energy Award, and this serves as an incentive for us to continue along this path with determination,” concludes Christian Stampfer, Head of Real Estate & Facility Services 2.
